Weekly Delights #46

Todo dia é um bom dia pra ser feliz! O que te fez feliz essa semana? // Everyday is a good day to be happy! What made you happy this week?

Foi uma semana cheia de presentes, comidas e amor. // It was a week full of gifts, food and love.

1- O primeiro presente da semana veio diretamente da Ucrânia. Uma amiga do trabalho voltou de viagem e trouxe para mim essa caneca fofa, feita a mão, super tradicional de lá e também alguns chocolates que já desapareceram.

The first gift of the week came directly from Ukraine. A work friend returned from a trip and brought me this cute mug, handmade, very traditional there and also some chocolates that have disappeared.

2- Outro presente, também internacional, veio da Inglaterra, de um amigo que encontrei no mês passado em Istanbul. Quando nos encontramos, conversamos sobre nossas viagens e sobre essa mapa que eu queria muito comprar (mas a empresa que produz não entrega na Turquia e nem no Brasil), No mapa você pode ir raspando os países já visitados e ele foi super fofo de mandar um de presente para mim.

Another gift, also international, came from England, from a friend who was also in Istanbul last month. When we met, we talked about our travels and about this scratch map that I wanted to buy (but the company that produces it, doesn’t deliver in Turkey neither in Brazil). It’s a map where you can go scratching the countries you already visited and it was super cute of him to send it to me as a gift.

3- Na Turquia, os vizinhos de apartamentos e condomínios adoram trocar as gostosuras que eles cozinham. É um ciclo que nunca acaba, pois quando um vizinho te manda um prato com alguma coisa, você não pode devolver o prato vazio, tem que colocar algo que você fez ou que tem em casa e assim as pessoas vão sempre trocando pratos e comidas. Esses doce da foto foi um “presente”da vizinha da minha sogra, em retorno ao prato com o doce que ela havia feito alguns dias antes e eles estavam deliciosos, ainda mais os morangos secos que eu amo.

In Turkey neighbors love to exchange delights they cook. It’s a cycle that never ends because when a neighbor sends you a plate of something, you can not return the dish empty, you have to put something you did or something you have at home and so people will are always exchanging dishes and foods . Those sweets in the picture were “gifts” given to my mother in law from one of her neighbor in return of some candies that she had done a few days before. And they were delicious, especially the dried strawberries that I love.

4- Ganhei também esse doce, chamado de Asure ou Doce de Nóe, da minha vizinha, que é um doce super histórico e tradicional, específico dessa época do ano como eu já expliquei nesse post.

One of my neighbors also give me that sweet called Asure or Noah’s pudding, which is a historical and traditional sweet, specific from this time of the year as I explained in this post.

5- Milagres acontecem e o meu namorado resolveu ir para a cozinha e fazer a receita de sopa de galinha da avó dele. Claro que ele me chamou para ajudar, pois ele não sabe muito sobre cozinha, mas já é um começo.

Miracles do happen and my boyfriend decided to go to the kitchen and make a chicken soup recipe from his grandmother. Of course he called me for help because he does not know much about cooking, but it’s a start.

6- Um amigo foi lá em casa essa semana e levou esse doce maravilhoso. Sério, não parece nada demais e essas bolinhas pretas parecem meio estranhas, mas podem acreditar que é divino, um dos melhores doces que eu ja experimentei.

One friend came to our home this week and brought this wonderful sweet. Seriously, it does not look great and those black dots seem kind of strange, but you have to believe that it is divine, one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted.

7- E o melhor e o pior momento da semana envolvem essa velhinha linda, a minha avó! Foi aniversário dela de 92 anos essa semana e é sempre tão ruim estar longe nessas datas especiais e perder esses momentos pertinho da família. Mas para tentar compensar um pouco eu mandei de presente uma cesta de café da manhã para ela, como uma forma de estar mais perto mesmo estando longe e ver a carinha dela de feliz e emocionada com o presente diminui um pouco a tristeza de não poder estar perto para dar um abraço apertado.

The best and the worst part of the week involve this lovely old lady, my grandmother! Her 92th birthday was this week and it’s always so sad to be away in those special dates and lose those family moments. But to try to compensate a little I sent a gift for her, a breakfast basket, as a way to be closer while apart and seeing her happy and thrilled face with the gift could slightly reduced that sadness of not being able to give her a hug.
